The American Chemical Society Eastern New York Local Section is seeking nominations for the Buck-Whitney Award, which recognizes original work in pure or applied chemistry. The award includes a bronze medal and citation, a $1,000 honorarium, and a travel grant to present a talk at the November Eastern New York Local Section meeting.

The award, first given in 1976, is named after two eminent research directors who were part of the local section: Johannes Buck, who was the associate director and director of research at Sterling Winthrop, and Willis R. Whitney, who was director of research at General Electric Corporate Research & Development.

The nominee can come from industry, government, or an academic institution, and their work can be in experimental or theoretical aspects of any pure or applied chemistry field. Nominations should include a recommendation letter, a list of the nominee’s accomplishments, and a description of their contributions to chemistry. The nomination deadline is July 1. Nomination materials should be sent to Amy Osborne at enyacs@gmail.com.
